Hi dear reader! It pains me to inform you that I am currently serving my military service for Taiwan. I will be done in May of 2013, so until then posts will be sporadic. I hope that this doesn't deter you from checking back often as I will attempt to provide content whenever I can. Thanks!

How hard is it to make sugar taste good? Maybe a negative 3 on a scale from 1 to 10? I remember just sucking on sugar cubes as a child and thinking that nothing in the world could possibly taste better.  This isn't to say that there is no art to crafting amazing desserts, i'm just saying that you must suck if you somehow molded sugar into something distasteful.  So if you are a bakery or dessert maker of any quality, it just comes down to a matter of degrees, because any place that can sustain itself for any measurable amount of time is bound to be good.  This I feel is doubly so in Taiwan because HOT DAMN are the pastries and breads fantastic.
I've been to my fair share of these sort of places, but this will be the first one I blog about (probably because I finally remembered to take pictures) ... your welcome Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖.

Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖 is a charming little shop located around Taipei's famous Yong Kang St.  You see that drawing on the menu? There is a rather large replica of it in doll form sitting outside the restaurant.. so this little sweet shop shouldn't be difficult to find.  Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖 isn't particularly large in size, but there is some seating towards the rear of the establishment that usually requires a reservation to lock up.

Macaroons are wonderful.  If you feel differently... then I don't think we can be friends anymore.  Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖 made theirs very nicely, with just the right amount of chewyness, sweetness, and density to make each bite feel rather substantial.  I'll be honest here, I can't remember the drink I ordered (cut me some slack.. the birthday celebration was the night before).. but it was some berry tea drink that wasn't overly sweet.

Some more desserts including a coffee macaroon.

Look, i'm pretty sure i'll learn how to write about desserts slowly.. or that i'll be able to differentiate between the good and truly great patisseries at some point.  But as i'm typing this sentence out, they pretty much all taste pretty good to me.  So right now, it comes down to selection, ambiance, and a few other factors since i'm going to hold to the belief that the status quo is that they all kick butt.  Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖 is a cute shop that is located in a great area for food.  They achieve a very important thing in dessert making in that everything the create at the very least LOOKS amazing to eat.  I enjoyed our post lunch excursion here and while it might not excite me to come back, something must be terribly wrong with the world if I passed up a dish from Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖.  Take that for what its worth.

Overall Patisserie la Douceur - 品悅糖 receives :

Til next time - some more treats for your eyeballs.

 Hands off bucko!

-EDIT-

Accidentally stumbled onto a second location of this dessert place.  Apparently they have only been opened two months as of April of 2012.

Address: No. 18, Section 2, Xìnyì Road, Daan District, Taipei City.

The dessert offerings look to be the same.  We only came in to pick up a few macaroons and to take a peek at this new/old discovery.
